Thriving by Association


"So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran." - Genesis 12:4

One of the cheapest ways to becoming great is by association. It has been said that one can see farther by sitting on the shoulders of great men. That was exactly the case with Lot.

The story of Lot began to look promising the moment Terah his grandfather took him, Abraham (his uncle) and Sarah (Abraham's wife) out of Ur to Haran.

Terah died in Haran. God spoke to Abraham and he was on the move to a land of promise.

The defining moment of Lot's life finally came, he saw Abraham packing up to go to an unknown destination led only by the conviction that God had spoken to him and Lot decided to follow him.

That was it, Lot became a generational footprint.

Lot followed Abraham and he became great. Sometimes the missing ingredient in man's hunt for greatness is correct association as seen here in Lot's life.

See the testimony about Lot in the Genesis 13:5-6

"And Lot also, which went with Abram, had flocks, and herds, and tents.
And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together: for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together."

The question today is on this your path to greatness who are you following?

Even Jesus Christ our Lord has His first requirement of us simply as "Follow Me".

I have heard it said that who you follow determines what follows you. And everyman follows someone.

So who do you follow?

3 Reasons Why You Need Jesus

1. There is an afterlife. Even people that do not believe in God have an unspoken assurance within them that there is an afterlife. GOD CANNOT BE STRANDED! Make a big deal of whatever you have been called to do in the Lord's vineyard. Do the work with all your strength but don't ever be guilty of making 'yanga' before your Maker. As human beings we will be tempted to place much emphasis on ourselves as we grow in service especially when what we do is considered by many significant. We must do all to keep our focus on Him who has called us and determine to stay humble in Him. As ministers of the gospel, sometimes the work may be overwhelming but we mustn't think ourselves greater or more relevant than we ought.
