Should Christians engage in birth control? Is it sinful?

In the beginning when God created man He blessed them and commanded them to be fruitful, multiply and replenish the earth (Genesis 1:28).

There is therefore no doubt that God is pleased when His children procreate within the confines of godly marriage. God is fully in support of bearing children because He commanded it from the beginning.

... But how many children should we have? Is it right to seek to control the rate at which we conceive since children are a gift from God?

There is no known record in the Holy Bible stating or implying that birth control is wrong for consenting couples. However, there is a general agreement that abortion is murder and is a sin. Thus when a woman gets pregnant the Christian thing to do is to birth life.

The Bible tells us that wisdom is the principal thing (Proverbs 4:7), thus believers should be guided when making decisions. It is not wise to get pregnant without thinking through. Using birth control methods in a Christian home is not a sin! A man can eat as much as he can without sinning but if he eats too much he hurts himself; and that's foolishness. However it is pertinent that birth control be done in agreement not in isolation.

Know that anyone who has more children than he can cater for has literally denied the faith and is worse than an infidel (I Timothy 5:8). In another view why should a woman who has children already conceive again when it is clear that any pregnancy at a certain age (or frequency to a precious one) could be life threatening? Brethren, let's be wise.

It is therefore advisable for Christian couples to agree together on how best to plan their rearing of children so that they will be able to raise their children in a manner that is glorifying to God.

Shalom

MERCY

It’s pulpit rotation Sunday. The guest minister mounted the podium as the church stood with a resounding applause. From the fifth row where he was Oke noticed the deep tribal lines on Pastor Obayemi’s cheeks, and his missing tooth was revealed as he led a worship song. “Oh! Not again!” Oke retorted under his breathe. “When will they stop sending unlearned preachers to us?” He touched his jeans to feel his phone. “It’s going to be a long service.” He turned and moved towards the exit. As we he was about to step outside, he heard the interpreter’s booming voice “Today we will be praying some strong prayers.” Oke proceeded out of the auditorium; phone in hand, a smirk on his face. From the toilet where he stood examining his phone, he could hear the roar of praying people. He was pacing back and forth, staring at the marble walls. He began to ramble about the toilet. “No one is online, even my ‘goons’ will be in church now. This is unfair! I wish I could leave.” He st...

KING SAUL: The Demand

After the death of Joshua and the elders of his generation, the children of Israel forgot the wonders, power and love of the Almighty God. They forsook the Living God and worshipped stone dead gods like the nations around them. They got into the anger book of God and were open to attacks by the enemy. They were sorely oppressed and they cried out. God remembered His promise and love towards Israel and He gave them JUDGES to deliver them out of oppression and to lead them back to righteousness. Thus began the era of the judges. Season after season the people returned to sin and God remained faithful in giving them judges. Years passed and the mantle of leadership fell on a prophet - Samuel. Samuel had a good reputation with God and the people. He judged the people in righteousness and wisdom. His tenure saw the Philistines subdued and cities restored to the Israelites. And there was peace in his days. The Demand Samuel grew old and made his sons judges. Unfortunately the sons of S...

Mistaken Identity

Nothing hurts more than when people take you to be something negative which you are not. If not handled properly it can dry the oil of motivation. Joseph had a DREAM but his brothers mistook him for a DREAMER. They said to one another, "...Behold, this dreamer cometh." (Genesis 37:19) Having a dream is NOT the same as being a dreamer. A dream is an appointment with destiny. A person who has a dream has an appointment that must be fulfilled. A dreamer is a person whose ideas and plans are not practical or based in reality. A dreamer is a joker. He talks about things he has no passion nor commitment to carry out. Joseph's brothers thought he was a dreamer. They were blinded by envy and driven by rage. They mistook their saviour for a serpent and tried to kill him, but God delivered Joseph out of their hands. Don't expect people to accept your dreams, They will call you a dreamer and it will hurt your feelings. They will try to bury your dreams but God will...
