EASTER STORIES: A Woman Called Mary

BEYOND THE GRAVE
A woman called Mary

Mary Magdalene sat still in the mud with the other women as they beheld the Savior on the cross. She was now exhausted from crying, all that she did was let out continuous sobs. The soldiers had hit them about in attempts to keep them quiet and out of their way. With both eyes now swollen red, lips peeled from impeding dehydration and exhaustion, Mary sang a hymn. The other women joined in the hymn, as they sang tears flowed freely.

From the cross, Jesus looked at them and smiled. Mary could feel the warmth of His love in her heart. The women smiled to one another as they held themselves closer and sang louder. Within a few minutes, Jesus said "It is finished" and released His Spirit.

One of Jesus' disciples, Joseph of Arimathea, demanded His body and He was buried.

On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb but the stone was rolled away. The body of Jesus wasn't there. "Someone must have taken His body" she thought to herself. She went to inform Peter and John. They ran ahead of her, when they saw the open tomb, they didn't know what to make of it. They returned.

Mary sat at the entrance of the tomb crying. Visions of her past life came back to her. Now that the Master is gone, will the demons return? Will she suffer those terrible torments again? Mary remembered the vow she made to follow Him till the end, she had come to the tomb not knowing what else to expect to do, now she was at the end with no where else to go. There was only one thing that could give her succour - Jesus Himself.

As she wept, she heard a voice behind her talking to her. She paid little attention until the Man called her name.

"Mary."

It was unmistakable. Turning, she said "Master."

MERCY

It’s pulpit rotation Sunday. The guest minister mounted the podium as the church stood with a resounding applause. From the fifth row where he was Oke noticed the deep tribal lines on Pastor Obayemi’s cheeks, and his missing tooth was revealed as he led a worship song. “Oh! Not again!” Oke retorted under his breathe. “When will they stop sending unlearned preachers to us?” He touched his jeans to feel his phone. “It’s going to be a long service.” He turned and moved towards the exit. As we he was about to step outside, he heard the interpreter’s booming voice “Today we will be praying some strong prayers.” Oke proceeded out of the auditorium; phone in hand, a smirk on his face. From the toilet where he stood examining his phone, he could hear the roar of praying people. He was pacing back and forth, staring at the marble walls. He began to ramble about the toilet. “No one is online, even my ‘goons’ will be in church now. This is unfair! I wish I could leave.” He st...

Mistaken Identity

Nothing hurts more than when people take you to be something negative which you are not. If not handled properly it can dry the oil of motivation. Joseph had a DREAM but his brothers mistook him for a DREAMER. They said to one another, "...Behold, this dreamer cometh." (Genesis 37:19) Having a dream is NOT the same as being a dreamer. A dream is an appointment with destiny. A person who has a dream has an appointment that must be fulfilled. A dreamer is a person whose ideas and plans are not practical or based in reality. A dreamer is a joker. He talks about things he has no passion nor commitment to carry out. Joseph's brothers thought he was a dreamer. They were blinded by envy and driven by rage. They mistook their saviour for a serpent and tried to kill him, but God delivered Joseph out of their hands. Don't expect people to accept your dreams, They will call you a dreamer and it will hurt your feelings. They will try to bury your dreams but God will...

KING SAUL: The Demand

After the death of Joshua and the elders of his generation, the children of Israel forgot the wonders, power and love of the Almighty God. They forsook the Living God and worshipped stone dead gods like the nations around them. They got into the anger book of God and were open to attacks by the enemy. They were sorely oppressed and they cried out. God remembered His promise and love towards Israel and He gave them JUDGES to deliver them out of oppression and to lead them back to righteousness. Thus began the era of the judges. Season after season the people returned to sin and God remained faithful in giving them judges. Years passed and the mantle of leadership fell on a prophet - Samuel. Samuel had a good reputation with God and the people. He judged the people in righteousness and wisdom. His tenure saw the Philistines subdued and cities restored to the Israelites. And there was peace in his days. The Demand Samuel grew old and made his sons judges. Unfortunately the sons of S...
