KING SAUL: CONFIRMED

Confirmation is removal of doubt. This comes usually from an authoritative statement, general acceptability or an undeniable fact. In the case of King Saul his confirmation as the chosen king of Israel came primarily by the declaration of prophet Samuel but more importantly by his first victory as king.

A band of Ammonites had laid siege on a portion of Israel, they were going to level the city. The only condition for peace was that they gouge out the occupants' right eye and that they become servants. The community was destruct and they wailed. Saul heard of it and went there.

And the Spirit of God came upon Saul when he heard those tidings, and his anger was kindled greatly. - 1 Samuel 11:6

The rest is victory. The people were so over joyed that they were willing to put to death anyone who disputed the fact that Saul was king. Saul needed no greater confirmation, the kingdom was firmly rooted under him. In fact even Samuel called the people to Gilgal to reaffirm the kingdom. They sacrificed to God and rejoiced greatly for the victory.

If not for the confrontation with the Ammonites, King Saul would have had a tough time gaining the recognition of the generality of the people. Apart from his physical looks his background was not exactly royalty material. But the victory closed all doubts and he was accepted by all as Israel's first king.

We still need confirmation today. First and most importantly we need to seek confirmation from above particularly when it involves crucial steps of our lives. A life without divine confirmation will continually plunge into life's frustration rather than favour.

Confirmation you can trust

The Bible admonishes us to test every spirit ( 1 John 4:1), we should also be careful of some cooked up confirmation.  These two are trusted:

* The word of God. The word of God is the highest authority that can confirm a matter. Every word of God is empowered to deliver without fail. If your steps can be substantiated by the word of God you are standing on solid ground. A preacher once said that when you find your life partner God releases a direct word into your heart to serve as an unshakable confirmation.

Many people shoot themselves in the leg because they have no interaction with the word of God. God cannot guide you by a word you don't know. It is in tough times that many people run to their Bible to find helping scripture. We are to meditate daily on the word of God. The word should be part of our lives. In fact you cannot be certain that anything dropped into your spirit came from the Holy Spirit except by the word of God. Everything can fail but the word of God can never fail.

We will remember that in the case of Saul what made him King in first place was the word of God spoken by Samuel. Whether they liked it or not, the word of God said it and it was irresistible.

* Godly Witnesses. Confirmation also comes by the testimony of two or more. God will not leave your fate to you alone. You love yourself too much to see error when it comes your way. God always specially arranges people to serve as proofs for whatever conviction you have. If you can not find godly people to agree with what you perceive it will be very wise to proceed with great caution.

On marriage again some people marry without parental consent, this is very dangerous. Ideally the people closest to you with the most experience are your parents. Ordinarily they love you more than all others. So if they say they smell a rat you should take it seriously. If they are happy with your choice, happy are you.

Anything great must be corroborated by witnesses. Jesus was careful to perform His miracles where at least two people would testify. The testimony concerning Jesus was not what He told them He did but what they saw Him do. Too many people have made a shipwreck of life simply because they believed in a closed confirmation that wasn't substantiated by truth from other understanding hearts.

Saul was confirmed king by the infallible word of God and the testimony of his brethren. He was enroute a time of supernatural victory.

HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU COUNT MONEY?

Recently, I had to make a lot of cash lodgments at the bank, and I proceeded to arrange and count the notes. I counted the various currency notes like three times and sorted them accordingly. When I got to the bank, the teller went to work, and I wasn’t surprised that the count was perfectly correct. The confidence was because I had double-checked the notes; the margin for error was very slim. In our Christian walk, we mustn’t be overly bold about our right standing in Christ if we haven’t examined ourselves again and again. 2 Cor. 13:5b says, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves…” Test yourself! Are you standing, or are you just thinking that you are standing? When I counted the money the first time, I could have stopped, but I needed the certainty. I know that I am born again, but I need to examine my heart: is there something hidden there that shouldn’t be there? Once, I was speaking to a group of people, and the manner of my speech wasn’t in confo...

IF WE MUST BOAST

If we must boast, let us boast of the mercies of the LORD. Two students attend lectures and put in the same level of preparation; one scores an “A” and the other a “C”. Many explanations can be available, but when we hold all other things constant, mercy is the difference between men. I have written an exam before where I prepared diligently but got into the exam hall and misinterpreted the questions, writing the exact opposite of what was expected. After the exam, I had only one prayer: God, have mercy! In Acts 13, Paul and some other prophets separated themselves to fast and pray. Mercy spoke, and Paul and Barnabas were called into a special assignment. Were they better or more diligent than the others who were not called into that particular assignment? I don’t think so. Apostle Paul later told us that everything he did was a result of the grace of God. God’s mercy and grace are what enable us to achieve any kind of result in life. Let’s be careful how we think. Let’s be careful how...

Sink the Ego, Say the Sorry

Have you wronged someone and are fighting within you to say that you are sorry? Have you bruised someone? Or have you done nothing wrong and someone is annoyed with you? Just say sorry. The Bible says "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed..." - James 5:16. Our words carry healing virtue we should use it right. Is it possible not to bite your tongue? It is usually a kind of reflex, beyond control. That's the reality of human relations, no matter how careful we are, sometimes we step on one another's toes. When this happens our reaction shows the quality of our character. Saying that you are sorry goes a long way in sustaining healthy relationships. In fact it carries an anointing to resolve conflicts quick. Is it easy to say sorry? This depends on a number of things, a sincere apology is obviously more difficult to render than one which is not. Saying sorry particularly when you are convinced you are right is als...
