Apprenticeship requires Humility

Growing up we saw apprentices do all manner of things for their bosses. I personally have seen an apprentice who did almost everything for her master; she cleaned her home, washed her children's clothes, cooked, went to the market and ran all manner of errands.

Does that still happen today? Not really. I must admit that the case I portrayed is a little extreme but it showed the level of humility of the apprentice.

Today people want to learn the work, make money but do not want to pour water on their bosses hands. I also have been guilty of this at times.

Somebody goes on IT and squeezes the face when it is lunch time because he/she has to buy food for the bosses. It's not necessarily right but it is unescapable in certain places.

During my own IT, I was lucky my boss was quite well to do so I always bought food from notable fast foods but some others weren't so lucky, they had to queue at Mama Put.

The point is this, if you want to learn from someone you will have to humble yourself to get the knowledge that the person has. If your ego is bigger than your desire to learn, then you will encounter many problems.

The disciples of Jesus were simply His apprentices. Do you know they left all to follow Him? Jesus didn't make servants of them, He made them friends but they still had to pay the price of honouring Him and serving. They even called Him "Master". In the end, by just looking at them one could tell that they had been with Jesus!

What must you do to learn all you need to learn? How will you serve those that are ahead of you to acquire the knowledge and skills they possess? How low can you go to reach your goal?

Think on these things.

MERCY

It’s pulpit rotation Sunday. The guest minister mounted the podium as the church stood with a resounding applause. From the fifth row where he was Oke noticed the deep tribal lines on Pastor Obayemi’s cheeks, and his missing tooth was revealed as he led a worship song. “Oh! Not again!” Oke retorted under his breathe. “When will they stop sending unlearned preachers to us?” He touched his jeans to feel his phone. “It’s going to be a long service.” He turned and moved towards the exit. As we he was about to step outside, he heard the interpreter’s booming voice “Today we will be praying some strong prayers.” Oke proceeded out of the auditorium; phone in hand, a smirk on his face. From the toilet where he stood examining his phone, he could hear the roar of praying people. He was pacing back and forth, staring at the marble walls. He began to ramble about the toilet. “No one is online, even my ‘goons’ will be in church now. This is unfair! I wish I could leave.” He st...

KING SAUL: The Demand

After the death of Joshua and the elders of his generation, the children of Israel forgot the wonders, power and love of the Almighty God. They forsook the Living God and worshipped stone dead gods like the nations around them. They got into the anger book of God and were open to attacks by the enemy. They were sorely oppressed and they cried out. God remembered His promise and love towards Israel and He gave them JUDGES to deliver them out of oppression and to lead them back to righteousness. Thus began the era of the judges. Season after season the people returned to sin and God remained faithful in giving them judges. Years passed and the mantle of leadership fell on a prophet - Samuel. Samuel had a good reputation with God and the people. He judged the people in righteousness and wisdom. His tenure saw the Philistines subdued and cities restored to the Israelites. And there was peace in his days. The Demand Samuel grew old and made his sons judges. Unfortunately the sons of S...

Mistaken Identity

Nothing hurts more than when people take you to be something negative which you are not. If not handled properly it can dry the oil of motivation. Joseph had a DREAM but his brothers mistook him for a DREAMER. They said to one another, "...Behold, this dreamer cometh." (Genesis 37:19) Having a dream is NOT the same as being a dreamer. A dream is an appointment with destiny. A person who has a dream has an appointment that must be fulfilled. A dreamer is a person whose ideas and plans are not practical or based in reality. A dreamer is a joker. He talks about things he has no passion nor commitment to carry out. Joseph's brothers thought he was a dreamer. They were blinded by envy and driven by rage. They mistook their saviour for a serpent and tried to kill him, but God delivered Joseph out of their hands. Don't expect people to accept your dreams, They will call you a dreamer and it will hurt your feelings. They will try to bury your dreams but God will...
