Give your Hands to the Rope!

My provincial pastor told us a funny story yesterday. See how I put it:

There lived a man who was noted for being very stingy. It was on record in community that his '10kobo' had never left his hands into the hands of another. He was extremely selfish.

One fateful day while he was going about his work, he fell into a deep hole. Thankfully people were around and they arranged to bring him out.

They threw a long rope into the hole and screamed from the top "Give your hands to the rope! Give your hands to the rope!"

On hearing this, the man refused and put his hands behind his back. When the people saw that he didn't touch the rope, they called his wife asking "Why is your husband not holding on to the rope?"

The wife asked, "What did you tell him?"

"Give your hands to the rope", they responded.

Then the wife said, "He will rather die than to give anything!"

Dear friend,

Don't be like this fellow. This week create avenues to give. Don't hoard what you have.

Be a blessing to someone through your gifts. Proverbs 11:25 says "The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed."

Give.

HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU COUNT MONEY?

Recently, I had to make a lot of cash lodgments at the bank, and I proceeded to arrange and count the notes. I counted the various currency notes like three times and sorted them accordingly. When I got to the bank, the teller went to work, and I wasn’t surprised that the count was perfectly correct. The confidence was because I had double-checked the notes; the margin for error was very slim. In our Christian walk, we mustn’t be overly bold about our right standing in Christ if we haven’t examined ourselves again and again. 2 Cor. 13:5b says, “Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves…” Test yourself! Are you standing, or are you just thinking that you are standing? When I counted the money the first time, I could have stopped, but I needed the certainty. I know that I am born again, but I need to examine my heart: is there something hidden there that shouldn’t be there? Once, I was speaking to a group of people, and the manner of my speech wasn’t in confo...

IF WE MUST BOAST

If we must boast, let us boast of the mercies of the LORD. Two students attend lectures and put in the same level of preparation; one scores an “A” and the other a “C”. Many explanations can be available, but when we hold all other things constant, mercy is the difference between men. I have written an exam before where I prepared diligently but got into the exam hall and misinterpreted the questions, writing the exact opposite of what was expected. After the exam, I had only one prayer: God, have mercy! In Acts 13, Paul and some other prophets separated themselves to fast and pray. Mercy spoke, and Paul and Barnabas were called into a special assignment. Were they better or more diligent than the others who were not called into that particular assignment? I don’t think so. Apostle Paul later told us that everything he did was a result of the grace of God. God’s mercy and grace are what enable us to achieve any kind of result in life. Let’s be careful how we think. Let’s be careful how...

Sink the Ego, Say the Sorry

Have you wronged someone and are fighting within you to say that you are sorry? Have you bruised someone? Or have you done nothing wrong and someone is annoyed with you? Just say sorry. The Bible says "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed..." - James 5:16. Our words carry healing virtue we should use it right. Is it possible not to bite your tongue? It is usually a kind of reflex, beyond control. That's the reality of human relations, no matter how careful we are, sometimes we step on one another's toes. When this happens our reaction shows the quality of our character. Saying that you are sorry goes a long way in sustaining healthy relationships. In fact it carries an anointing to resolve conflicts quick. Is it easy to say sorry? This depends on a number of things, a sincere apology is obviously more difficult to render than one which is not. Saying sorry particularly when you are convinced you are right is als...
